Budding entrepreneurs
If you want to run your own business you have to be focussed and self-discinplined.
Even the smallest business should take the time to draft a business plan, which sets out the business's aims and how it will achieve them.
The plan will vary depending on the type of business but it will usually include some or all of the following:
-
A statement of the business's aims.
-
A budget covering profit and cash-flow forecasts, which should be set out in detail for the next 12 months and in outline for the next two to five years.
-
A marketing plan covering how the business will promote its products, attract new customers, handle promotions and so on.
-
A plan for the amount of capital expenditure on long-term assets such as cars, property and new equipment, how they will be financed and when they will be acquired.
-
The business's strengths, weaknesses and new opportunities, and possible threats to its survival.
-
The business's staffing, training and employment needs, because lack of good-quality staff can affect its growth.
...if the business is making products for resale, the plan should also cover its production needs.
But how detailed should your plan be? How realistic is it?
We at Appletons will be delighted to help answer these questions for you.
